SaaS Pro Max vs PostHog

SaaS Pro Max is a PostHog alternative for teams that want analytics, reliability and revenue in one console with an organization-wide event budget. PostHog offers a larger free allowance and separate usage meters for its products; both platforms connect to AI assistants through MCP.

Compare the limits that affect your setup.

Plan allowances use different units. Check the modules and collection volume you actually need.

Which fits your team?

Choose around the investigation you need to complete and the limits you can work within.

Consider SaaS Pro Max when…

You want to follow an application issue across events, errors, uptime and revenue, with a selected event-volume step covering the organization. Start with the signup-drop investigation and check which modules its steps require.

Free is useful for evaluating collection and reports. Budget for Starter if replay or revenue is part of your evaluation; compare the full module list before choosing.

Consider PostHog when…

Your priority is a larger free event allowance or free session replay. Compare your expected volume with PostHog's allowances before assuming a paid alternative will cost less.

If your agent workflow depends on HogQL queries, evaluate PostHog's SQL tools through MCP. Having MCP support alone does not distinguish these products.

Compare collection volume, not just pageviews.

In SaaS Pro Max, a pageview is only one kind of billable event. Accepted page, track, identify, alias, error, metric, vital and session events share the monthly ingest budget.

A site with 10,000 pageviews can therefore produce more than 10,000 accepted events. Measure a representative period with your intended SDK settings, then use the event definition and quota rules when choosing a step.

Reporting definitions matter too. SaaS Pro Max's standard overview sums daily unique visitors across a date range; a person returning on two days contributes twice. Use the metric definitions to compare equivalent reports.

Evaluate one real workflow before switching.

Use a small, known dataset so you can explain a mismatch before collecting more traffic.

  1. Define the question. For example: where do users drop out between starting and completing signup? Write down the event names, conversion window and expected count for a controlled test journey.
  2. Instrument one application. Follow the SaaS Pro Max setup guide. Check environment, consent, identity, sampling and timezone before comparing totals with your existing reports.
  3. Follow the evidence. Reproduce the journey, inspect the event feed and build the funnel. If replay is enabled on your plan, confirm that a usable recording exists and sensitive fields are masked before relying on it.
  4. Try the agent connection. Start with read-only access and ask for a report with the application, environment, date range and metric definition stated. Verify its answer against the console and supported tools.
  5. Check operational fit. Confirm permissions, retention, exports and projected ingest volume. Recreate and validate the reports and flags you depend on before changing production collection.

This checklist validates a new collection setup. It does not promise automatic migration of historical PostHog events, recordings, dashboards or flags.
